Deepening into Elderhood

As questions came up for me this morning, I heard the call.

It’s been a while since I created space to write, even though in the last 12 months there’s been more time than ever!

Though it’s challenged us all in many ways,  it’s also a gift. A huge transformational time on earth that we in our 3rd chapter can experience. Having lived through many decades of change and/or struggle, we can be a source of calm and wisdom for others, and our loved ones.

Numerous people have written inspiring articles and engaged in philosophical conversations about this period in time. For me, I’m focusing on how to stay present, contented and healthy to ride out the next few years of uncertainty. I’m not concerned about where we’re headed as any fear is more detrimental to our health than any virus.

Don’t allow fear to call the shots!

Action is also a potent antidote to fear, and here’s one step to start – a True Vitality TEST that you can complete on the Blue Zones research website which is a wonderful resource for healthy living and ageing.  I did this test and the results show that I should live happily and healthily til about 90, but if I add a glass of wine per day and more social interaction I could reach 98.

The wine is on my shopping list today!

Given I’m well into my 3rd chapter of life, which comes with occasional health challenges, I’m often reassessing where I’m at, and researching how to improve my quality of life. I’m no different to you - I too can be side-tracked by eating unhealthy food combinations which then cause stress in my gut and body.  As I write this I am again enjoying a warm drink of rice Miso - one of the soothers for an unhappy gut!

So how are you feeling right now?

New learning about my Healy frequency device clearly states that as soon as our cell membrane voltage drops below -50mV, inflammation and disease starts to develop.  So the more we can keep our cell membrane voltage in the higher numbers, the easier it is to remain healthy, and enjoy these years with less anxiety and discomfort.

Our cell potential becomes disrupted via stress, trauma and lifestyle.

And the closing of our hearts.

So turn on your new frequency channel of LOVE.

I’m heartened to know many activist peers who are involved in a wide range of causes from peace, feminine spirituality, protecting our environment and our health choices, and the most vulnerable in our society. I would like to think that most people who’ve reached elderhood have an urge to protect, march or speak out, over cruising the high seas and feasting on smorgasbords.

The 'Enough is Enough' march against sexual violence recently challenged many of us in pouring rain to walk out talk. An elder friend and I supported each other as sisters, arm in arm, as we walked along the main street of our Mullumbimby town centre with a thousand others, to make our voices heard.

Some of the ways that we can act, live and love more heart-fully can begin close to home. With ourselves. Self-care and self-compassion is our first priority. Flowing on from that to all we meet and greet with our soft, empathic gaze and open heart, should then be easier.

Generosity of spirit comes next, especially with our friends who are essential to our longevity according to much research on centenarians. Generous to family and friends, and even strangers. A true friend is a precious gem. “Spending time with a friend is like finding a beautiful old seat in a secret glade deep in the forest” says Richard Rudd, who also speaks of the art of haragei - the dialogue between friends that unfolds as much through silence as words. Balm for our souls. No words necessary.

Staying informed, with research and discernment of what we see and read helps us to make wise decisions for our wellbeing and practical lives. As we are living in unprecedented times where our personal and cyber security is at stake, it’s our individual responsibility to get  up – to – speed if you’re struggling with technical issues. There’s no excuse.

Grandchildren, classes at our community centres, or online provide us with the know-how to stay in touch with modern technology, and remain alert. Most importantly, fine-tuning our antenna as we would a musical instrument, or TV, is vital.

Please share how you are 'travelling' in this time of unknowing.
